Jupiter Information Technology Solutions is now Bitovi
Today we are no longer Jupiter Consulting or Jupiter Information Technology Solutions or, as our often misinterpreted Roman symbol logo led people to believe, Jupiter24. We are rebranding as Bitovi.
Unlike P. Diddy or Chad Ochocinco’s bimonthly name change ritual, this is not a publicity stunt or an attention grabbing move. There are several very legit reasons.
First, Jupiter IT was a name Justin and I chose back in college, for little other reason than it sounded cool and it was the name
of the king of the Roman gods. We quickly got out of “IT” and into consulting, so we unofficially called ourselves Jupiter Consulting.
We have outgrown both names. We aren’t purely a consulting company. We are an open source software company who does some consulting. Bitovi
is a name that fits that direction more accurately.
Second, we don’t own jupiter.com or jupiterconsulting.com (seriously, look at the second one). It’s rather embarrassing when people try to find us and are ask why a JavaScript consulting company has a Java applet installed on its website. We wanted a name whose domain we could own without any ambiguity.
Third, Jupiter doesn’t really represent anything software related. Bitovi means bit (software) + ovi (the Latin plural of ovi, meaning egg). We hatch software. We are an open source company and this name has more of a new school vibe. Jupiter sounds more like an old fashioned IT consulting company.
Finally, in a little over a year we’ve grown from 3 people to 11. This new name represents our new team and our graduation from a little consulting company to a real software company with an amazing all star team of developers from around the world.
